Seven Samurai is possibly cinema's greatest accomplishment. This is one heck of a behemoth: 207 minute runtime, 1954, black and white, Japanese...it's not something where you can go "hmmmm yes let's watch that." You will need to want to watch this... Read the full review »

Alien: Resurrection is a pointless convoluted instalment to what was an excellent franchise. Honestly was there any need for this? It didn't further the story, didn't impress anyone and if anything is just the same old tired formula...but worse. F... Read the full review »

Lincoln is a historical biopic on one of the greatest presidents of all time. We follow him as he attempts to convince a bitterly divided government to abolish slavery by signing the thirteenth amendment to the constitution. An important segment o... Read the full review »

[Rec] 2 is an utter disappointment. I'm actually slightly annoyed as to how poorly executed this sequel is! Its predecessor is one of the scariest films ever, and yet somehow they managed to remove all of the scares and replaced them with bad edit... Read the full review »

Battle Royale is the brutal depiction of becoming an adult. It's a hyperbolic metaphor for independence, where school students start to venture out into the real world. Except for this class and this dystopian future, the students must fight to th... Read the full review »

[REC] (2007)

[REC] (2007)

8 / 10
[Rec] can be best described in one word: hectic. I've seen this film a few times, I remember the first viewing and I literally couldn't make it the whole way through (I was a young teenager at the time, don't judge). Sure the scare factor has worn... Read the full review »

Aliens (1986)

Aliens (1986)

9 / 10
Aliens substitutes pure horror for war...and it works so well. The original was masterful work so I was naturally apprehensive that a sequel may ruin the credibility of the first film, needless to say it does the opposite and actually cements the... Read the full review »

Pompeii is a volcanic abomination. Oh. My. Word. Why do I own this on bluray? In fact this is the ONLY bluray I regret purchasing. Let's start off the review positively: it's pretty to look at (if one considers the decimation of a city pretty) and... Read the full review »

The Exorcist is dubbed "The scariest film of all time". The question is, is it? Perhaps in 1973 it was, in more recent years it might be described as tame. Which ever you decide, you cannot deny that the imagery of the possession and exorcism will... Read the full review »

War Dogs is a smaller scale version of The Wolf of Wall Street. I literally couldn't get it out of my head whilst watching this, everything just seemed to imitate it. The freeze frames followed by narration, the clubbing scenes, the ludicrous acti... Read the full review »

American History X details the viewpoints of Neo-Nazism. But at the centre of this group is a dysfunctional family where the youngest brother is vulnerable to the extreme methods. Not only that, but it shows how our role models can change and pers... Read the full review »

Predator is the definition of a cheesy 80's classic. It's pretty much a B-Movie but with a bigger cast, and yet it doesn't take itself too seriously. It's a smart move from John McTiernan. The obvious comparisons to Alien are obvious, after all th... Read the full review »

Alien (1979)

Alien (1979)

10 / 10
Alien is without a doubt the best sci-fi horror film ever. I cannot believe I have not watched this until now. Wow. I'm flabbergasted. 1979 and yet somehow has aged so damn well that it feels like it could've been made recently. I was beyond terri... Read the full review »

War Horse is classic Spielberg storytelling. The man is the best at creating film to tell a story that makes you feel every emotion. I smiled through the first act, was thrilled by the second act and slowly teared up towards the end. Set within th... Read the full review »

Films you don't like that everybody else loves.

@Chris Never! Wait...Get Out isn't in your top 2 so far!? @FILM I gave it an 8, maybe when I get the bluray and the hype has died down it might get a higher rating. View the full reply »

Dare I say one of the newest films: Baby Driver? I thought it was great but not outstanding like everyone is making it out to be. Logan was ridiculously overrated as well. If we're going slightly older I would probably say Mud and The Place Beyond... View the full reply »

X-Men: Apocalypse is just another X-Men film. Yup, nothing new here unfortunately. Where First Class focussed on characters and Days of Future Past honed in on the series' origins, this instalment brings nothing new to the table. We have two separ... Read the full review »

Baby Driver is a visceral audio experience that will enthral all who watch it. I've not seen a film quite like this, where the soundtrack isn't just there for the sake of preventing silence...it's actually the main gimmick. Our main character, Bab... Read the full review »
