Night of the Slasher (2015, Short Film) Review

Night of the Slasher is a short film directed by Shan’t Hamassian. The film follows Jenelle, a teenage girl that must commit horror movie sins such as drink alcohol, do drugs, and have sex to lure a killer and finish him off. While the film is considered a horror/thriller short film, it is also quite funny. The way the film utilizes...

[Review] Arrival (2016)

[Review] Arrival (2016)

Arrival (2016) is a film I was very excited to see and I had high expectations because of the director, Denis Villeneuve. Villeneuve has directed three of my favorite films in the last three years: Sicario (2015), Enemy (2014), and Prisoners (2013). I am happy to report that *Arrival*...

Halloween Franchise - Film Reviews

[Review] Kassel (2016, Short Film)

Kassel is an impressive first film by writer and director Earl Wayne Crabtree II. While it does have a few flaws, for the most part, it is a beautifully shot and well-acted short film. With this being Crabtree's first attempt at a short film, I was concerned that 1940's World War II Germany was going to be too great of a feat for him.

A Nightmare on Elm Street Franchise - Film Reviews

Phase 2 of my recent journey to watch all Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Halloween movies is complete. I watched all 8 A Nightmare on Elm Street films (or Freddy films as some of you know them). These films are all over the place with regard to consistency. Some of them are scary and some of them are quirky.

[Review] The Neon Demon (2016)

As with Drive (2011) and Only God Forgives (2013), this Nicolas Winding Refn directed film focuses heavily on stylization. Every frame of this stunning film is an incredibly thought-out piece of art. The film's visuals are paired perfectly with an incredible score by Cliff Martinez to...

Friday the 13th Franchise - Film Reviews

I recently embarked on a journey to watch all Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Halloween movies. I just finished phase 1 of this journey in that I watched all 11 stand-alone Friday the 13th films. While most of them are pretty bad, there are some good ones in the lot and even the really bad ones have some saving grace moments.

[Review] Don't Breathe (2016)

[Review] Don't Breathe (2016)

I went into "Don't Breathe" expecting a very suspenseful horror film and it fully delivered on those expectations. The film relies heavily on sound and lack of sound to provide the incredibly tense tone. While it is a suspenseful and tense film, I did appreciate that it...
