I'm not a fan of horror as a whole, the genre is saturated with cheap jumpscares and shallow characters and plots. I know this is probably about the least original observation I could make on the subject but it's true.

Alright guys, I take it back. Having watched Blade Runner (1982) twice more I think it's simply amazing. Never mind what I said before, this is one of the best Sci-Fi films ever made. God knows why I didn't like it at first.

Argo is a true story-based thriller about a group of Americans who become trapped in Iran. They attempt to escape this prison of a country by creating a fake film, and pretending to be the crew on a location scout.

@TheMovieDiorama If we're talking less mainstream directors I would say Michael Hanake and Xavier Dolan.
Some other popular directors I forgot to mention are Tom Hooper, Alejandro G Inarritu and Alfonso Cuaron.
