In yet another sequel none of us wanted and nobody asked for, “The Matrix: Resurrections” is a case of a sequel-remake-reboot hybrid that’s not exactly good, but not exactly terrible, either. With director Lana Wachowski at the helm, most of... Read the full review »

There’s no getting around it: “The King’s Man” is a very, very weird action movie. It’s a movie where I left unsure of the audience it’s made for. It’s a movie that’s all over the place, starting out slow and rough, but steadily bu... Read the full review »

There are a lot of problems with “Red Rocket,” director Sean Baker‘s follow-up to his 2017 film “The Florida Project.” It’s incredibly one-note and monotonous, and it sometimes feels like mumblecore gone wrong. Before drowning under it... Read the full review »

Writer / director Paul Thomas Anderson‘s “Licorice Pizza” is a film that feels casually comforting, like a warm blanket of nostalgia. It’s pure and genuine in a way that will make you want to reminisce about fond moments from your own teen... Read the full review »

“The Lost Daughter” is far from a pleasant movie going experience. The directorial debut from actor Maggie Gyllenhaal (who also adapted Elena Ferrante’s novel for the screen) is sustained by a trio of knockout performances from Olivia Colman... Read the full review »

Northern Ireland in the late 1960s comes alive in writer / director Kenneth Branagh‘s “Belfast,” a semi-autobiographical tale about a 9-year-old boy whose world is turned upside down by unrest and turmoil in his life and home. I loved everyt... Read the full review »

It’s always a pleasure when a mainstream film gives a platform to voices that have long been underrepresented in Hollywood, and Disney’s “Encanto” expands the studio’s culturally-diverse canon with its first Latinx musical. Featuring a c... Read the full review »

The delightful “7 Days” is a sweet, funny look at relationships from a unique cultural perspective. This COVID-era movie makes a creative (and realistic) use of the lockdown, with a love story meet-cute that’s set during the early days of pa... Read the full review »

Crime drama “House of Gucci,” based on the true story of the Italian family behind the luxury fashion empire, is a mess of an undertaking at the hands of director Ridley Scott. All of the elements that make up a solid feature narrative are the... Read the full review »
