I feel at odds here with Jumanji: The Next Level. It’s probably the physical embodiment as to why most video-game adaptations of classic franchises haven’t always worked due to either faulty execution, lack of ideas, or maybe a little bit of both. To be fair, I found some fun here. The acting once again is impressive, for it shows them all having a good time, the action sequences when not disrupted are fun to watch unfold, ranging from an action-adventure flick to a body-swap comedy, it manages to succeed at surpassing JUST the bare minimum and just like its predecessor, it has good intentions. But Jake Kasdan’s sense of direction feels rather misguided, some of the editing threw off some of the action sequences, some of the jokes didn’t land, the antagonist is forgettable and....well, even at that level, this film is more or less exactly the same as Welcome To The Jungle only with a few modern tweaks and patches and updates that REALLY should’ve been included the first time around.

Ok, you know what? This is basically the equivalent of WWE 2K17. It isn’t an improvement upon the first—second film, it doesn’t add anything new and once you see past the gimmick, this so-called upgrade gets old quickly. They had every opportunity to fully take advantage of the bugs-n-glitches arc in this story to add more at stake for these characters and improve the story but no such risks are taken here as it makes the whole experience feel completely barren.
