  • King Arthur Legend of the Sword was the attempted start of a franchise. A franchise that I can definitely say will not continue. This film was not good, it was completely mediocre. Let's start with the positives, Jude Law and Charlie Hunnam. Both of these were great and actually conveyed emotion. The production design was excellent, very high quality. The sound effects and sound mixing was also brilliant. The final fight scene was epic and reminded me of a boss battle from a video game. Guy Ritchie's classic witty flashback editing works for some of the time here. Sounds like it's going well right? So why on earth was I bored? The plot is messy, the supporting cast were dull (particularly the actress who played the Mage...good lord why would you choose her!?) and the tone was inconsistent. When the film wants to be serious it is then ruined by "comedic wit"...which really just falls flat every time. The visual effects were mostly fine, but occasionally we are presented with some absolutely horrendous effects. It's 2017, there are no excuses! The film tried to be a fantasy, I think it would've been better suited as just a medieval action film. Ritchie is a talented director, but this is easily his weakest entry and I must say I was completely underwhelmed. Shame really.
