  • Ghost in the Shell is the live adaptation of the 1995 anime, which in my opinion is very overrated. This film however, I was nervous for. This could pave the way for anime adaptations, secure Scarlett Johansson as a box office star and combine both Japanese films and Hollywood. Is it any good? I thoroughly enjoyed it. The visuals and production design are the best I've seen in years for a sci-fi, very reminiscent of Blade Runner. The acting was solid, Johansson is dependable as ever, she as able to capture both the synthetic emotionless shell and also her "ghost" which brings across the humanity...but the actor who played Batou was very fitting for the part. The script was a bit clunky and it does shove philosophy and morals down your throat...but atleast they attempted to explore these. The action scenes were well choreographed and also not too excessive, this is more of a thinking person's sci-fi. I'm very happy with the result and I'm hoping this does well financially, so make sure you see it!
