  • REVISED REVIEW: This. This is probably the film that I defend the most. Apparently it doesn't follow the source material, with the ending catastrophically changed. A story that apparently should be buried and classed as one of the levels in Dante's Inferno. A level yet to be illustrated that is most likely entitled "don't take it seriously, it's just entertaining escapism". And that's exactly what the films in the Dan Brown trilogy are. Escapism. And I'm here to review films, not rate the accuracy of adaptations. Sure, a rich billionaire hiding a plague that, when unleashed, will wipe out half of humanity is somewhat absurd. Ludicrous even. But, much like the actors, direction and narrative, you roll with it. Open your eyes. "Seek and find" the off switch and enjoy the entertainment because, much like the previous entries, it's a fun mystery that is powered by historical figures, grand architecture and religious overtones. Agreed, it's the weakest of the three and yes, the linear narrative and editing is slightly heavy handed. Yet, for me, utterly watchable. Howard's competent directing and Hank's assured performance make you believe in this scenario. The threat feels real. Overpopulation is an issue, and the main purpose of the story feels relevant. The third act is one of the only reveals to make me physically stand up in the cinema. When Sienna closes that grating...I'm up. My hands are in the air. I'm viciously flailing my arms quicker than Langdon can find the next clue. So yes, crucify me. Throw me into the depths of Dante's hell. I like entertaining mysteries. I like engaging thrillers. I like Inferno.
