  • Batman V Superman is one messy behemoth of a superhero epic. Trying to review this is like advising Lois Lane to go away and stop being a plot convenience...it's just damn difficult. So I'm going to be more specific in my review. Yes, Snyder's style is beautiful to watch and the serious dark undertone is a much needed contrast to Marvel's lighter affairs. But let's get down to the gritty. What decisions that the studio made did I like? Well, casting Ben Affleck as Batman was a breath of fresh air. I love how this iteration of Batman is so jaded and haunted by the wrong doing of men that he now goes against his rule and kills criminals if necessary. Not to mention how he completely decimates henchmen. Introducing Wonder Woman in the final battle scene (not a spoiler, she's on the front cover) was brave and it worked...because she stole the whole film. All 151 minutes of it. I liked Doomsday being a combination of "God" and mankind and conveying that both can be evil. Plus, his overpowered electric storm of overpowered destruction was ridiculously overpowered and in fact overpowered my surround sound system (RIP...but totally worth it). I was happy with the small cutscenes for introducing the Justice League, could've been better but I was satisfied to an extent. So, what didn't I like? *sigh* I think we can all agree that the battle between Superman and Batman was a massive letdown. What made it worse, was the conclusion and how after shouting out one name that they had in common...*breathe Luke*...managed to make them the best of friends one minute later. One. Flipping. Minute. Because. Of. One. Flipping. Convenient. Ridiculous. Stupid. Name. We waited years for this and THAT was their best idea!? Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor? No. Ballsy...but no. Lois Lane being in every scene (completely accurate)? Annoying and ridiculously convenient. The constant monologues of Gods being equal to men and blah blah blah? It's exactly that: blah blah blah. Don't get me started on the horrendous editing. I like the film...but obvious flaws are obvious.
