We know them, we love them (most of the time). From Shutter Island to Shawshank Redemption, here's the place to talk about the best and worst plot twists you know.
The Sixth Sense is one of my favourites, I love how the entire film is built around this twist, it really brings so much cohesion and clarity to it. Fight Club of course, an absolutely mind blowing twist. Hats off to Fincher for pulling this one off from such tricky source material, and also to Brad Pitt and Edward Norton for delivering some of the best performances of their careers in this film. More recently, Arrival wowed me with it's fresh take on Sci-Fi, and a unique plot twist that left my head spinning. My favourite twist however, is that at the end (or beginning!) of Nolan's masterpiece Memento. Who would have thought you could put a twist at the beginning of your story, then play the whole thing backwards to create one of the most exciting and original films in history.
@FILM the sixth sense definitely. Unbreakable had a prettt decent plot twist as well. My favorite is usual suspects
So many good ones. I second Arrival (2016) my mind was spinning as well. I would probably give The Sixth Sense (1999) and Fight Club (1999) the awards for best plot twist of all time. As for Shutter Island (2010), I saw that one coming from a mile away.
To go old school I would also throw in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Friday the 13th (1980).
I would also possibly award Saw (2004) the award for best horror plot twist.
@Chris I agree with Saw (2004), that one really caught me off guard. And although I love Shutter Island (2010), whenever I rewatch it I feel like an idiot for not guessing it straight away.
I think that one of the most classic plot twists is in the original Planet of the Apes (1968). It was completely unexpected and pure genius.
@EducatedMovieFan Planet of the Apes! what a mention, you never see it coming. Loved all the ones above. I would have to say The Usual Suspects blew me away on the reveal and so did Seven. The Prestige as well has a great one, although easier to read.
