  • Quantum of Solace is a first direct sequel. Problem is that it's a direct sequel to a masterpiece. Credit where credit is due though, this has all the elements a Bond film requires. Suave sophisticated Bond? Check. Feisty Bond girl and/or Bond girl who falls for his charm? Got it. A villain who wants money and/or power? Tick that box (although hardly memorable). Finally, several great action set pieces? Definitely, particularly the Bolivian desert hotel showdown. So far so good right? So why does this have a bad reputation? One simple word: editing. Editing editing god damn editing. When you make an action film in which the camera switches every half second, what are they simply achieving? It's not cool or clever, it's nauseating and frustrating. Every single editor should hang their heads in shame because this is simply the worst edited Bond film and in fact had to start another reboot with Skyfall. It really goes to show that you can have all the elements that makes a great action spy film, only for it to be ruined by shoddy editing from editors who just could not be bothered. Frustrating.
