  • Battleship, a film based on a board game where players sink each other's fleet. So naturally we include aliens, Rihanna and a heck load of explosions. I can give props to the sound effects, the soundtrack and the visuals of the alien ships...and the acting is never terrible (except you Rihanna...). But this is full of flashy explosions, flashy lense flares, flashy alien suits and flashy flashiness that just flashes by...because this film is hardly memorable. The script was dire and unfunny, Liam Neeson was underused and don't get me started on the actual battleship mechanic they use. Water displacement? Just no. It's a fun, fine, flashy film...just make sure you turn your brain off. WAIT! Why the heck would we communicate with aliens if we weren't ready to defend ourselves? NASA and the President practically just sat and watched the whole thing unfold whilst enjoying a cuppa tea, scratch that, make that a coffee.
