As a longtime Phineas And Ferb fan, I was rather perplexed to see them making a comeback after their series finale and even more perplexed that their second film “Phineas And Ferb: Candace Against The Universe” isn’t as emotionally resonant or entertaining as Across The Second Dimension especially with the stakes being not as high as that one. But who I am kidding: this was still a welcome addition to the series and a really, REALLY fun time.

While offering the same trippy, escapist animated fun that the series itself delivered on its behalf, it continues to be as delightful and as clever as it’s known for being. The animation is bright and colorful, there are plenty of catchy musical interludes, both the action and meta-jokes come at a very fast, very strange and very visual but not too frenetic clip, it balances itself out to both kids and grownups alike while referencing countless callbacks to countless episodes and glorifies the hell out of knowing it’s a weird piece of fiction but keeping it within the shows lane of continuity. It may not always be funny or surreal or zany or even all that smart (you might have to WATCH the show to get a better grip on the characters) but it’s heart is in the right place as it infused a deeper, introspective side to Candace, thus fully integrating her emotional thread that the series touched upon from time to time. It sucks being considered someone insignificant and worthless compared to someone who can do it all per se but just being there for someone is enough to make you special in almost anyone’s book.

For fans and non-fans alike, as a natural evolution of the show, there’s something to enjoy here for everyone.
