  • Only God Forgives...I, I have no words. This film assaulted all of my senses and then some, like to the point where it was too much for me. The violence, the style, the bright red colours, the unlikeable characters, the musical score...I can only imagine this is like watching a violent film when high. There is no doubt that Refn makes some hypnotic pieces of cinema, this kept me intrigued throughout and his camerawork was sublime. The acting was serviceable, Kristen Scott Thomas being the stand out. The violence was...violent and the main story was fine. It just felt that a large portion of the film was pointless and just plain weird. Karaoke scenes, the main policeman constantly walking slowly, Gosling's prostitute girlfriend...it was too weird and didn't connect with me. An interesting experience that will probably warrant a re-watch.
