  • Swiss Army Man might just be the weirdest film I've ever seen...and I've seen some weird ones. It's essentially about a suicidal man finding hope through a corpse. This isn't just any old corpse, this is a fart powered, spark inducing, karate chopping, water dispensing, verbally communicating, projectile blowing corpse with a penis that acts as a compass. You like the sound of that? Then boy do I have the film for you. Indie films are becoming ever more popular recently and I can see why, they are creative. The innovation and originality used here explores the themes of loneliness, friendship and love. Yes there is a huge comedic undertone (to which I laughed several times), but its core is a heartfelt journey of self-discovery. Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe make for great chemistry, given the circumstances, and both completely carry the film. The direction was quirky and well shot, lots of montages as Dano's character finds new abilities within Radcliffe's character. Definitely made for some laugh out loud moments. I loved the score, it was entirely in acapella and I loved the way some of the characters start humming the background music before it begins. It's a short journey at 98 minutes, but I was completely invested and by the end was feeling somewhat emotional as the film draws to a conclusion. Major credit goes to the prosthetics for Radcliffe's corpse for some scenes, particularly as he is traversing the ocean by farting (not making this up). It's hard to find films as original as this these days, and for that I have to give this an excellent rating. I wished they explored more on some of their back stories, would've added to the character investment. But overall this is a solid indie flick that you will definitely remember forever.
