  • Angels & Demons showcases the ultimate debate of science and religion. This is of course masked by a thrilling story that both informs us of famous philosophers, scientists, sculptors etc. and keeps us glued to the screen. I remember watching this for the first time and was blown away by the twists and turns that the story contains, but essentially our favourite symbologist is called to the Vatican to try and save four cardinals from being murdered and to find an antimatter capsule before it explodes and decimates the entirety of the Vatican City. Annnnnnd breathe! Yes, it's ridiculous but to be honest it's all the better for it. The plot clearly shows the science and religion debate, whilst this might not be subtle and does seem forceful in the script, it is interesting to see different perspectives. Tom Hanks is consistent as always and just keeps reeling off facts about the Illuminati and the Vatican...I could listen to him all day. The rest of the cast were good also. Lots of memorable scenes to be had here, including one scene that involves the antimatter capsule...which visually looked stunning and epic simultaneously. Ron Howard is not the most consistent director, however the Robert Langdon trilogy will always be my favourite of his...I love how the background and environment takes precedent as he spins the camera. As our characters are running through Rome, we get some great scenery with some noteworthy production design and visual effects...truly immersive work. However, the main star...the best thing...my man, Hans Zimmer. His musical score, oh my. It's just beautiful. One of my favourite scores of all time, particularly the "Science and Religion" composition which just oozes epicness. It's safe to say I love this film, I see why many people didn't, but I'm a simple creature who sometimes just likes entertaining films. The Robert Langdon series is consistently great, and Angels & Demons proves that.
