  • Before a few days ago, I have never seen a Guillermo Del Toro movie. Now I get what people are saying. There are so many factors that make this an amazing movie. The story, which takes a historical and quirky turn on the classic Beauty and the Beast story. The acting, which varies from an amazing performance from Sally Hawkins without hardly saying a word to the terrifying Michael Shannon, an accurate portrayal of someone’s soul that has rotten, just like his fingers. The cinematography, which reminded me of a darker Wed Anderson-like aesthetic mixed with some bridge of spies. The costume design of the fish creature was also magical. The strangely placed comedy worked perfectly. I loved everything about this movie. There was not one moment where I wondered when the movie would be over. If you told me the plot of the shape of water before anything was filmed, I would’ve never believed it could be made. But, Guillermo Del Toro has crafted an artistic masterpiece, with it also being very fun.
