  • Now You See Me 2 definitely ups the magical antics compared to its predecessor. However this is also a detriment to itself. The majority of the cast members return, except Isla Fisher is replaced with Lizzy Caplan (who I thought was far more charismatic). The acting is solid, the veterans (Freeman and Caine) are just there to be there but Caplan, Radcliffe and Ruffalo are excellent. The characters themselves were enjoyable and each had differing personalities which makes them easily identifiable and distinguishable. The more intensive magical scenes are exciting, and I absolutely loved the card throwing/flipping/whatever you want to call it scene. The direction was clean, although the fighting scene in Macau's market street was slightly messy. I liked the settings as well, the backdrop of Macau and London were well presented. The problem I have is with the overall plot. Within 15 minutes it undid everything from its predecessor. It's full of conveniences and lacked mystery. The majority of the magic was explained however some are more believable than others. Oh and I hated the character of Chase, I don't know what Harrelson was thinking. This is unrealistic magic that is over-the-top, so if you turn your brain off you will enjoy this immensely. For me, it's a perfectly fine sequel but not as good as its predecessor.
