If you were hoping for "Assassin's Creed" to be the savior of video game-based films, I hate to break it to you it's not. This movie was a heaping steaming flaming pile of human excrement. The biggest problem with the film is that there was almost no character development. Nothing gives us a reason to connect to any character. The lead character begins the movie on Death Row, how the hell is the audience supposed to root for this guy. Since you can't connect to the characters you'd hope the action was at least captivating, right? Nope, every major action sequence while beautifully choreographed has its momentum stalled by over editing and the bane of modern action scenes "Shaky-cam." The score is decent but at a couple of times seems loud and overpowers the film. On a positive note, the scenes that take place in 1492 are best parts of the film. The world the filmmakers built was immersive and incredibly detailed. The costumes are intricate and look great. The characters we follow in the past offer the only opportunity for connection but every moment you become invested you're ripped back into the present.
