There isn't much to say about Dunkirk really. And that is a good thing.

This is a film that has to be experienced. It is no coincidence that the dialogue is sparse in this film. Nolan clearly realises that a story like this doesn't need words; all it needs is to be seen.

Through the films runtime, the audience are subject to horror after horror as death's sweeping grasp sporadically whips away the young men.

Whilst the ending is debatably happy, the final look of our protagonist tells all.
There is no relief after the film's ending; it is merely a break. One that the audience are happy for. One that the men are in desperate need for.
