  • Logan is supposedly Hugh Jackman's last outing as Wolverine, a character he has been playing for 17 years. What a way to go out though!? He threw everything into this performance. As the films have progressed, the character has become more jaded and experienced and we can simply see that just by looking at him. What separates this from the other entries, is the gore and the more mature themes that it explores. This isn't light hearted, this is pretty heavy. I liked the inclusion of brutal violence and gore, it shows how the films and the genre itself has evolved throughout the years. Great action sequences as well, with some excellent choreography involved. I did however find the villain slightly forgettable, but as this is more of a character study on Logan himself...I won't be as harsh. I found Stephen Merchant to be an odd casting choice and the X23 girl, Laura, was essentially just screaming in the first half. These are minor gripes though, this is a mature superhero film an excellent emotional payoff.
