DreamWorks has been a little hit and miss with some of their 3D animated flicks and while “Abominable” is totally fine for adults and children alike, this is likely to be another miss in their long line of animated flicks. Granted, there’s nothing with the voice acting or the characters or it’s wonderful visuals and world building or it’s message about generosity towards wild animals as far as I’m concerned but if it‘s very similar plotline is anything to write home about, the proof is if you’ve seen them once, you’ve seen them all.

I mean it’s cute and enjoyable enough on its own but that’s it.

Despite its similarity and the fact that this film never references the movies it’s basing itself off of, it still goes off on a very predictable route. The story is very formulaic, hitting specific marks of gags, jokes and sentiment at very specific moments, it’s antagonist is lackluster, most of its comedy rings hallow and it loses some freshness to its concept as a result but there are enough touches of warmth and sweetness that keep the story enjoyable enough for audiences both young and not-so-young.

But that Everest, boy he’s a cutie.
