The Hunt is bleak, tense and most importantly outstanding. Oh yes, my first Danish film and I was completely blown away. This is the disturbing depiction of how a lie can quickly become truth, testing the powers of forgiveness. I cannot find a single fault, this was a complete edge-of-your-seat drama and I was emotionally invested. This is Mads Mikkelsen's best performance without a doubt, portraying a nursery worker who is accused of sexually abusing young children. The raw emotion he brought, the complexity of his character...I couldn't think of anyone more talented, absolutely fantastic. This is not an easy watch, it's a story where you see both sides. You feel for Lucas as he is accused of something horrific, and you feel for the parents who believe their children as this is every parent's nightmare. It's handled with such ferocity and conviction. The pacing was perfect, it never felt slow and all of the scenes were relevant. Some excellent camera shots, it's nice and clean so the direction was solid. I didn't think this would be as thrilling as I thought, but I was wrong...so many unpredictable scenes! I also loved how quickly the community turned against Lucas and isolated him...nothing here felt unreal or exaggerated. Every action taken by the characters had a purpose and I felt it. It's safe to say I adored this film, I felt I was apart of it and for that I have to give it the perfect rating. If you haven't watched this, go out now and watch it.
