I finally had a chance to watch DOCTOR SLEEP (Director’s Cut, 2019). I had missed this one in theaters, but I am a huge fan of Stephen King and THE SHINING, so it has been top of mind for a while. I have yet to read the book, so I knew very little going into it. I absolutely loved this film! The way it expands on the lore from THE SHINING is fascinating and I can’t wait to read the book to see what else was left out. Ewan McGregor is excellent as a grown up Danny Torrance who is severely struggling with alcoholism and controlling his special ability. Kayleigh Curran who, in her first major role, plays Abra, a young girl with the power to shine was outstanding as well. I look forward seeing more from her in the future. But for me it was Rebecca Ferguson who absolutely stole the show. Her portrayal of Rose the Hat was incredibly disturbing and twisted. I was also surprised by how well they were able to recreate characters and flash back scenes from the original film. I highly recommend checking out DOCTOR SLEEP. I have seen most of the TV and Film adaptations from Stephen King books and I can confidently say this is one of the best.
