Long story short: if you came to the movies just to see Kevin Hart and/or Bryan Cranston, you’ll get your wish with ”The Upside”. It’s a film remake that isn’t good or bad in any extensive way because as a film, it’s just.....there. I guess what I’m trying to say is if you see it, it’s fine but it’s also ok if you miss it. The film does follow those formulaic, cliched footsteps that you’d expect it to and does kinda push the envelope between being too long and being somewhat tedious. If you’ve watched Driving Miss Daisy, this should be no surprise and absolutely no different. On the other hand, it does offer a lot of heartwarming tender moments with some solid performances with Bryan Cranston doing excellent as always and Kevin Hart going to really impressive lengths that sometimes pay off and sometimes doesn’t. And this film really does highlight both of their chemistry together but it doesn’t really take enough advantage of it for me to really give this film a Crystal clear recommendation. Yes, the film may not be preachy but some scenes do make you feel a little uncomfortable and other editing choices aside that seemed.....off.

But apart from it being unoriginal, I can’t really see why everyone’s bashing this film. To me, it’s a cute little feel-good movie that Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart manage to make watchable and even enjoyable with a few laughs and their surprisingly good chemistry.
