I will say that while “Rambo: Last Blood” is far from unwatchable as some of these critics proclaim, it’s probably time for Stallone to put this franchise back in storage permanently, for its becoming obvious that the people behind this movie are running low on ideas. However, I know most people who just want to see Stallone bust heads and rip hearts out are gonna get their money’s worth. He’s great as Rambo, the story surprised me with some emotional moments and the 20 minute action sequences at the end is satisfaction incarnate if you’re a fan. However, there’s always a downside to a film like this and not even Rambo can escape a generic/cliched storyline, some scenes with awkward editing, very bland directing, unimaginative writing (hence the plot) and if anything, with its Home Alone style ending, Taken premise and Logan-like presentation, the entire movie just comes back as blatant fan-fiction and not a very fleshed out one.

While a part of me is glad that this franchise sticks to its ridiculous level of violence and action, a part of me is still conflicted because that’s never what this character was supposed to be. This character was supposed to represent the permanent damage that military service can do to one’s soul and instead, it turned him into one of the biggest and baddest action heroes in cinema all at the cost of alienating the real-life effects of life after war. It keeps the tone from its predecessors but not without altering the actual lore set within the franchise in itself. It’s lacking it's own identity, which heavily limits its memorability and strips away some of its kinetic thrills.

If you don’t mind it, you’ll come to enjoy this hopefully final installment in this long running franchise. Me? I had my fun but some things need to live and let die.
