It may not be a whole new world, especially not from a fresh perspective but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t find myself humming along or laughing along this carpet ride. From that standpoint, Aladdin is fine. Not necessarily saying much considering the track record that most Disney live action adaptations are getting nowadays outside of maybe three exceptions.....but with a more profound sense of wonder and magic in its screenplay and maybe with a more talented, experienced director, this could’ve been so much more. Acting isn’t a concrete issue entirely, with the standouts being Naomi Scott and Will Smith respectively. The scenery captures the spirit of Agrabah down to a T and I do feel inclined to say how both the action scenes and dance numbers make a good chunk of the movie enjoyable, mostly because of the choreography. The songs are the obvious highlights of the movie by a wide margin

The editing however tends to get in the way of most of that, since it feels like Guy Richie has no idea how to put together a musical, any pivotal scenes that garnered interest in the original are skipped over in no time flat, some unnecessary additions can be exploited and let’s be real, this ain’t gonna surpass the original because what hardly works the second time around? Some things work better in animation than live-action and vice-versa, this unfortunately is one of those areas where it was completely unnecessary to try and bring something of this magnitude to life. Whatever the animated film captured beautifully, this film does poorly at, bringing no magic spectacle from its animated counterpart and nearly waters them down but whatever parts the film added in on its own were actually the more enjoyable parts.

If you enjoy it, that’s fine. If you like the original and you’re not a fan of these live action remakes, then tread with caution.
