I would say that “Five Feet Apart” is one of the better YA book to film adaptations out there. What could’ve been a formulaic and blatant cash grab actually tries to be a moving, tragic and heart-wrenching tale of Star-crossed love, highlighting a life threatening disease at its core and for the most part, it succeeds. The film shines the most whenever it’s separating itself from the usual lore of cliched love stories, most of that’s due to Haley Lu Richardson and Cole Sprouse and if anything, what this movie shows us is that it’s about taking risks on the off-chance that life just isn’t fair. We are born, we will live, we will die one day but no matter the obstacles or the limitations, you still gotta live it out to the best of your ability no matter how unfair it appears to be.....even if that means losing or giving up the people you love the most.
