  • Spy is a comedic approach to the spy genre. Heavily inspired by James Bond (even the opening credits) but multiplying the comedy by over 9000 (meme intended). It's hard not to find this enjoyable, even if the majority of the jokes fall flat. Melissa McCarthy plays herself yet again. Everyone else though is actually really good. Jude Law, Jason Statham and Rose Byrne are fantastic...heck even Miranda Hart was good (never thought I would say that). The action scenes are well shot and thrilling and the story was interesting even if it was formulaic. But in a sense that is a good thing, it is trying to imitate the old spy films where the plots were predictable. The comedy was hit and miss, Statham was comedy gold yet McCarthy actually had the worst lines in the script. I think everyone can enjoy this to a degree, absolutely watchable and that's coming from someone who does not like American comedies.
