Ridley Scott can always be counted on to deliver that is a visually engaging film. The film works as a stand alone not requiring the audience to have seen Prometheus, any of the promotional shorts, or even any of the other films that take place after it. Danny McBride, who's casting worried me, was a standout as Tennessee and delivers a captivating, emotion-driven performance. Michael Fassbender carries this film as the connecting fiber between Prometheus and this film.

I only have a few issues with the film none of which are big enough to make me hate the film. The first issue I had with the film is the tonal shift between the tone of Prometheus and the tone Alien. It felt jarring and made the third act feel a bit wonky almost as if it was a separate movie. Also, some of the dialogue is cheesy and predictable and several of the characters make the usual horror/thriller stupid decisions. The last issue I had with the film was, that it fails to answer several questions we were left with after Prometheus and the are several continuity issues that bring up a few more questions that are left unanswered.

Alien: Covenant is a film with breathtaking cinematography, the scenery, effects, and jump-scares that scared the bejeezus out of the audience. And despite the issues with the third act and some continuity lapses, it is a solid sci-fi/horror experience.
