  • The Shawshank Redemption is the epitome of storytelling. These are what films are about, telling a story that just doesn't age. We all know what it's about: prison life, institutionalisation (not easy to spell!) and justice. Perfectly acted by the reliable Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins, this film contains so many memorable characters with plenty of depth. Thomas Newman and his perfect musical score. The direction is timeless and hasn't aged at all. Heck, even the bluray quality is excellent! I can't however give it the perfect score. For me, it loses momentum towards the end...and I would've loved some more depth from the other inmates. But let's face it, it's always going to be eternally loved by film buffs and mainstream audiences alike.
