I am willing to admit whenever I’m wrong about a certain predicament or assumption I make. It happened with Ad Astra so I’m proud to admit that “My Spy” is another puck in the hole for me. With its somewhat enjoyable action sequences, decent chemistry between its two main leads, light-hearted message executed way better than what STUBER tried and failed to do, some genuine laughs and overall stable plot structure, it was a lot easier for me to get through compared to Batista’s previous work and.....that’s saying something. It’s not a movie that takes itself too seriously, it simultaneously makes fun itself while joking on the other movies of its kind. It’s somewhat charmingly fun and genuine which sets it apart from the others, which also doesn’t necessarily say much about its quality and the ‘impact’ it’s left in the wake of other films similar to this. It’s a heavily cliched story that still doesn’t completely subvert expectations, has some very unfunny gags, some lazy stereotypes, some darker jokes felt uncomfortably at odds with the rest of the PG antics and well, it just hits a bunch of familiar territories that didn’t really make it feel like I was there.

But within the realms of Tooth Fairy and Kindergarten Cop, I feel no need to get mad at this, for the results are essentially harmless albeit extremely mediocre. It’s a perfectly average movie that I have perfectly average feelings for and of you don’t have anything better to do, this is surprisingly much easier to sit through than Trolls: World Tour.

Honestly......I just wish I had a lot more to say here.
