I might as well be gone with the festivities and just spit it out: “A Madea Family Funeral” is not good. The characters aside from Madea, Bam and Hattie, again, don’t matter to me since their bland, unlikable or just plain annoying; the comedy is utter hit or miss between belly-laughing LOL’s or redundant repetition, and the simple plot is subordinate to everything else that involves smack-talking and plugging a....you know what up a woman’s you know what cause that’s what this family seems best at doing. The only positives are, of course, Tyler Perry killing it as Madea since he’s the only of the few comedic characters that actually work in this movie centering around him and just like the messages before, this one has an.....OK message and meaning behind it. IF you turn your brain off, you’ll get a few laughs out of the jokes but I can’t guarantee that.

Practically milking out whatever’s left of the cash cow. It’s just like Michael Bay with his Bayformers flicks: largely reviled franchise in general but it kept making big bucks and as they did, the films got exponentially worse. The same could be said here although Perry did luck out a few times but basically speaking: if it’s broke but it makes money, why bother fixing it? You can’t stop that.
All I will say though is that despite this sloppy send-off, which was expected, Madea left on her OWN TERMS and if it is true, if this is the last we’ve seen from Madea, I can’t say I won’t miss her but we’re better off for it.
