  • Maggie is an interesting zombie drama. This is not a horror film, I repeat, not a horror. Instead what we get is a rather thought provoking drama about a father and his recently infected daughter who will soon turn into a "zombie like"...thing. What I really admired was the delicate approach the film took with the father and daughter relationship, he obviously cared so much that he was not willing to let her go despite putting his other family members in danger. Abigail Breslin was the standout here, but who doesn't love Arnie...a rather melancholic role for him. I loved the cinematography and thought the character development was well paced. Where the film falls short is the ridiculously forced moody atmosphere. We get it, life is bad but for every frame to look so bleak...heck even the musical score was moody. It just felt forced and unsubtle. The ending negated the whole point of the film and felt rushed. Also the narrative felt tedious at times, the director tried focussing on the style and generic apocalyptic atmosphere rather than a more heartwarming script. Though this is an entertaining watch that I'm sure will raise the question: "What would I do in that situation?". Recommend a watch!.
