Looking back at the controversy that sparked this films rerelease date, it’s understandable why “The Hunt” was given this treatment but given all the effort that went into this, I don’t think it was really necessary. This is nowhere near as bad as it was made out to be believed in any way, shape or form but this film is far from perfect because what film isn’t? There is mighty strong acting here with Betty Giplin and Hilary Swank dominating most of the spotlight, most of its action/fight scenes are choreographed well enough with some dark humor splintered here and there and given its massive forward momentum shift from the moment the opening logo shows up, I found this to be somewhat funny, genuinely topical, extremely shrewd and, on some instances, it can be wise. Unfortunately, some of the jokes and dark humor either went over my head or didn’t get me to laugh, the film loses a bit of its forward momentum going into the half an hour mark, the film lacks its fair share of character development and with all of the political drama it sports, it doesn’t exactly go about it in a smartly sophisticated manner.

Politically driven or otherwise, I guarantee people are either going to misconstrue the events of the film to help it fit their mindsets or they aren’t gonna catch onto the bigger picture behind any of its themes or messages. Me personally, it does not mater whether one fits with whoever watches this because the film isn’t nowhere near as clever as it wants to be nor does it try as hard to nail its messages down. I can applaud them for taking shots at both the left and right wing and for not taking sides but they could’ve done a lot more to make the overarching stance, the driving force behind the story matter more in the grand scheme of things.
As a thriller and action movie, it was fun for a while. As an attempt at social satire for a politically smart story.....well, this ain’t no Joker; I’ll tell you that much.
