If anyone was hoping that this would be the film to rejuvenate the Underworld franchise I sorry to break it to you, it won't. Unfortunately, this film does not bring us more of the awe and action that gained the original its cult following. It simply gives us more of the same low-quality dialogue and action that have caused us to hate the past three films. The one thing the Underworld films have done well is lay the foundation for a great mythos. The problem is that lore is never fully explored or explained the films are all flash and no substance. The most interesting characters in this film had almost no arc and then, in the end, didn't even matter to the overall plot. There is so much narration and exposition through flashbacks that the film feels disjointed and rambling. Another thing the franchise has been reliable to bring to the audience is impressive action sequences but this installment doesn't even do that. Sloppy editing and multiple angle changes are used in a futile attempt to camouflage shoddy stunt-work.

If you've been a fan of the past three films in the Underworld franchise you'll probably like this one. If you've never seen an Underworld film and can suspend your disbelief you'll be able to get some enjoyment from the film. But, if you were disappointed by those films this one will just continue the trend.
