I always try to find positives when I watch a film. For this film, is was hard but, I found two. The first of which is unlike the first film, Jamie Dornan made Christian Grey an interesting character. In the first film, Dornan felt like a blank cardboard cutout but, in this film, he brought shades and colors to the role that gave it potential that went unrealized. My second positive is that this might turn out to be one of the funnier movies of the year. While I know is was meant to be a dark romantic thriller there were quite a few moments when I laughed out loud because it felt like I was watching a campy situational comedy. Thus ends my positives for this film.

Watching this film actually caused me physical pain. It felt like watching a 90s soap-opera. The film made no sense. The major flaw was the script it was absolute GARBAGE!!!! The dialogue between character powerless and at times absolutely cringe-worthy. It left multiple characters underdeveloped and incomplete. That whole subplot with the creepy woman from Christian's past, never really goes anywhere. The whole film lacks investment or stakes and feels like you're watching a teenager fast-forward between sex scenes. This film was supposed to be sexy and it couldn't even do that. The parts that are supposed to sexy, aren't. There was absolutely no palpable chemistry between Dornan and Johnson. The sex scenes were so stiff and boring that although there were five, they all felt like one scene.

This this was awkward and functioned more as a comedy soap-opera than the dark sexy thriller it was meant to be. Even the soundtrack sucked. I know, unfortunately, it will be a box-office success but, hopefully, the other two amazing films opening this weekend can beat it at the box office. I know this film will be in my Top 3 Worst Films of the year if not topping the list.
