  • Misery showcases one of the best villains in movie history. Annie Wilkes is a complex character full of depth. She's portrayed as a psychopath who believes she is caring for her idol, but deep down I felt sympathy for her. As her past life is revealed, I couldn't help but think her loneliness made her psychopathic. Absolutely brilliantly played by Kathy Bates who deserved that Oscar. James Caan was also fantastic as the kidnapped author, I felt his pain. The camerawork was clean and I loved how the camera was directly in Bates's face whenever she got angry, just enhanced every scene she was in. The story, although relatively simple, was still unpredictable and that is a major positive in a saturated thriller genre. Absolutely recommended and one of the best thrillers of the 90's.
