  • Lucy is...well, bonkers. I'm not too sure how to put my thoughts into a coherent review. I've seen this several times, and while yes it is very enjoyable, it's just absolutely crazy!? The first act is fine, Lucy has drugs in her stomach (for smuggling purposes), they leak and minor weird stuff happens...like floating around a room, you know...minor stuff like that. Second act arrives and ok she starts reading minds, being a whizz at two laptops (simultaneously might I add) and having her skin dissolve until she eats a bag of drugs which then makes her explode!? I'm on board with this, legitimately. The third act arrives and after the most ridiculous driving scene through Paris where cars are somehow flipping left, right and centre...stuff happens. I'm not going to say what happens in case you haven't seen it, but stuff certainly happens. It's stuff I would never had imagined, ever. Whilst the film might be absolutely ridiculous to the point where it's unbelievable (literally 17 minutes into the film), it is so damn enjoyable! It's like being hypnotised. Johansson has great on screen presence and proves she is a box office star, particularly in the Sci-Fi genre. Freeman actually does do a bit of acting here, not much mind you, but his voice is so damn perfect as a university lecturer. Visuals are great, script is bland, blah blah blah. It's the concept. The concept is what drove people to the cinema to see this, it's what drives me to watch it every year. The simple intrigue of what it would be like to access 100% of our brain's capacity. Oh and I loved how the percentage comes up on screen like it's a countdown to impeding doom, or highlighting the level of absurdity. The film unfortunately ends abruptly, which is a damn shame. But as soon as the credits roll, I just laugh to myself. I laugh because how could someone even visualise something so creative and bonkers!? This film is great, don't care what anyone says, it's a good time.
