Tim Burton’s take on “Dumbo” has spectacles ablaze and emotions running rampant but it’s overstuffed plot and subordinary length of characters proves to be less than marvelous, almost setting the legacy of this 1941 classic literally on fire. The 1 hour film from the 40’s gets ramped up to 2 hours and the main plot of the original story wraps up within the first 30 minutes with Dumbo taking flight. Most of the events that follow afterwards include characters that aren’t very fleshed out but have decent performances to at least atone for that, a competent director behind the scenes who brought the circus to life in more ways in one and a vision that could’ve lived out to its potential if not so much was crammed into what was already a straightforward storyline with all the buildup and all the payoff....well, not paying off.

And by the way, that mouse in the original, Timothy makes a cameo here. Yes, a cameo. He’s not even in the movie completely. Ain’t that a shame.
