  • No Country For Old Men is without a doubt the Coen's best film. Gritty, realistic and dark...I do love me a mature thriller. Javier Bardem is the star as the menacing antagonist, my God he owns every scene. Seriously when he is on screen, my eyes are transfixed. Josh Brolin is also great and carries the majority of the film. The script is tight, cinematography is stunning (great Texas landscape) and the fact no score or soundtrack is played makes the film all the more compelling. However...hoooowever...I hate the final scene. It's such a lazy way to end the film and personally didn't work for me. The last third of the film also slows down dramatically. I mean after a dramatic shootout midway through, I just slowly lose interest after that which is a shame. Maybe I need to watch it a third time? But for now I can't give it any higher than an 8/10.
