A naive, young perspective on poverty in America, The Florida Project takes place in the shadow of Disney World where dreams are sold half price. In the midst of the concrete jungle, there is Moonee, a young child who smiles at everything in life. Brooklyn Kimble's performance is wonderful and charming but, most importantly, she manages to stand up to veteran Willem Dafoe.
It's true that the film is meandering and takes its time. But, this enables it to choose subtlety over shock value, keeping us looking through the eyes of young Moonee.
A film with an interesting setting, honest perspective and a youthful freedom wrapped in bitter truth.1 member likes this review.
