A good conspiracy plot can make any generic cop movie feel bold and fearless and while “21 Bridges” THINKS it’s spraying several thousand rounds of ammunition and information at us, for everything it thought it was and wanted to be, it’s a bridge too far. In fact, I’d say it’s about seventeen bridges too far. The film is lacking in its narrative, it’s concept upon second viewing comes off as misguided, unnecessary filler, supposedly smart characters make rather glaringly stupid decisions without hesitation, the story lacks an indefinite measure of nuance with it’s background information or character development, most of which was left out of the faulty script entirely so it only makes me wonder if this was noted to death by studio executive mismanagement and when the story isn’t beating itself into a corner, it’s entirely predictable every step of the way, so much so that I correctly predicted who the real villains were before the movie even started.

The actors all do their respectable work and it’s all competent from top to bottom, but it's in service for a forgettable by-the-numbers cop thriller and everything else the film tries to present comes off as cheap counterfeit.
