  • Mechanic Resurrection is boring. I'm not going to sugar coat this, the worst thing an action film can be is boring. A shame really, the first one was actually pretty decent but why did it need a sequel? Let's start with the positives. The exotic locations look stunning, Rio De Janeiro and Thailand make excellent backdrops. The "accidents" are creative and meticulously thought out. Aside from the first combat scene, the rest are filmed well and not plagued with half second jump cuts. That's all the film has going for it. The character of Arthur Bishop was articulate, clever and cold in the first film...now he is just a generic Jason Statham character. Michelle Yeoh? Underused. Tommy Lee Jones? Underused. An amateur director who consistently kept zooming in and out of shots that didn't need it. The story was sooo thinly written that I could've predicted the WHOLE film before I even started watching it. No character development whatsoever. The use of green screen is clearly obvious for the backdrops. CGI explosions and helicopters...it's just not good. For an action film, there isn't that much action (props to Statham though, he has screen presence and is great at doing his own stunts). A romance that was ridiculously forced and unemotional, I did not care for anyone's fate OH WAIT I didn't need to because we all knew what was going to happen anyway. We had to wait 30 minutes before the villain was introduced and then for Bishop to start assassinating the targets...but by then the runtime was running short so everything felt rushed. I wanted to like this, I really did but an action cannot be boring. This is, therefore it fails.
