  • In the black corner is Batman, a billionaire orphan turned masked vigilante of Gotham. And in the red corner is Superman, the godlike alien from Krypton. Now, the two are facing off in an epic showdown for justice in "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice".

With Zack Snyder returning to direct this sequel, his visual trademark and dark signatures are utilized to convey the dramatic core and distress of our characters, but the problem is, it never hits. Snyder fails to balance the story and create the foundation of the highly-anticipated DC extended universe.

As for the Batman character, Ben Affleck surely immortalizes the caped crusader with such depth and substance - his story arc is effectively crafted, but where Affleck can pull off the iconic role, Henry Cavill lacks to appeal enough. Perhaps most importantly, the complex nature of the Superman character - both savior to humanity and threat to humankind - is perfectly showcased.

Meanwhile, the side characters of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince and Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth are underdeveloped, overused or sometimes wasted.

VERDICT: BvS: Dawn of Justice is a cinematic superhero extravaganza heavy on clumsy execution and editing but with a few strong counter points.
