  • I Spit On Your Grave 2 has taught me never to go to a photo shoot. What. On. Earth...did I just watch? Absolutely disgusting, consistently eye-watering and incredibly distasteful. Honestly, I'm not sure how anyone can find these "torture-porn" films entertaining. They're horrible and this is no different. A young girl aspiring to be a model embarks on a photo shoot which takes a turn for a worst when the photographers rape and murder her. That is until she miraculously survives and decides to take matters into her own hands. "Vengeance is mine" is a prominent line in this, and boy does she take revenge! Several occasions where I physically couldn't watch it, my mind wouldn't allow me. The pure definition of sick. The plot does detail the apparent issue of human trafficking that many thrillers are tackling, illustrating how diabolical it is. A committed and investing central performance from Jemma Dallender who really carried the film. I did have a moment where I exclaimed "...isn't that the guy from Doc Martin!?" for Joe Absolom. Unfortunately though, it's just another formulaic predictable plot that attempts to gross you out with every torture scene it unveils. It's quite literally the exact same structure as its predecessor, which consequently removes all thrills that could be had. The lack of characterisation prevents me from being emotionally invested into the story. Constant cuts to a black screen which act as scene transitions were jarring and monotonously dull. The torture scenes themselves seemed too basic and certainly not as elaborate as the first instalment, however in saying that these were definitely more grotesque. Excrement, vomit, pee and even some weird mouldy rotten substance...I'm sorry, but this just was not to my taste. Don't even get me started on the last trap that our protagonist makes, I advise male viewers look away immediately. It's not entertaining, it's not even dramatic...it's just wrong. Uninspired wrongness. Please send me all your support for when I watch the third film...
