  • Project X is insane. It's ridiculous. It's crazy. It's a damn fun watch. Let's get this straight, this film has a basic plot (if any) and is filmed like an MTV music video. I mean from a critical perspective this is not a good film. The acting is functional, it's predictable and the ending is just all too nice and happy (considering the chaos that actually occurred). It gives off the wrong message including: succumbing to peer pressure, disrespect of personal property, damage to one's health from alcoholism, drugs and all sorts. However, I'm not a middle aged adult so I viewed this as if I was there (the handheld footage technique helped)...and oh yes this is enjoyable. What starts out as a basic house party turns into utter chaos. Attaching a dog to a bunch of balloons. Shoving a groin punching midget into an oven. Setting off fireworks inside a house. Using a stun gun against fellow neighbours. Jumping off the roof onto a bouncy castle. Stealing a drug dealer's gnome who then returns with a flamethrower to get it back. Driving a car into a swimming pool. All of this, happens in one night. I mean by the end we are left with a neighbourhood that looks like it's been in a war zone. So the gimmick and main attraction of the film, is the ludicrousness of the party and how uncontrollable it slowly becomes. The soundtrack was right up my street, full of electronic dance music. The character of Costa though, is an absolute awful friend. The whole party wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for him pressuring the birthday boy (who clearly did not want to do it). So if there was any moral to this film, don't give into peer pressure...unless you do want a massive house party full of naked girls, booze and ecstasy. I can't say this is a proper "film", so I personally wouldn't recommend it to someone...but it's an enjoyable crazy experience.
