If “The Farewell” was art, then “Blinded By The Light” is an anthem: an anthem centered around how inspiring music can be for someone who’s lost in life and how what’s said about not letting the hardness of the world keep you down from letting the best of you slip away rings true. It’s an ode to the promise of youth and the transformative power of music that’s heartfelt, humane and mostly genuine. The performances are amazing, the story is personally riveting and the soundtrack is excellent but it’s also unforgivably honest with its subject matter. It doesn’t blind us from the gritty, baggy, roughed-up realism from the 80’s not does it shy away from letting us take in the bigger picture of why music can be a blessing but also a curse to those who support us and need us.

We all be somebody someday, we all want to put our talents to something worthwhile but you can never forget what and who you are. You will never forget the journey you took to get where you are and how far you’ve gotten if it hadn’t been for those by your side. Aside from some characterization nitpicks and the confusion of whether this should’ve been a musical or not, this was a blast.
