The problem with "Passengers" is that the movie doesn't know what it wants to be. The first two acts of the film focus on the relationship between Jim and Aurora. As it moves into the third act the filmmakers try to turn "Passengers" into a captivating action-thriller by forcing system errors that must be fixed. Well, it doesn't work and turns "Passengers" from a thought provoking relationship drama into a mediocre science-fiction-romantic-action-thriller. That being said, "Passengers" is not all bad. Thomas Newman's score was great, hitting emotional cues without feeling over-the-top. The music blended perfectly into the scenes without ever pulling you out of the film. Michael Sheen is the standout of the movie, playing an android bartender that offers friendship and advice to Jim and Aurora. His performance brings a warmth and levity to the contrast the emptiness and austerity of the Avalon.

Despite its struggles with an identity crisis, "Passengers" has a lot of potential. Solid direction, beautiful visuals, and strong performances make the movie enjoyable enough
