I can’t muster the strength to get angry at what “The Grudge” presented me because the very formula it inheres itself to is the blueprint, the standard for how every single horror film that comes out nowadays is supposed to be like and at this point, I don’t care anymore. Just like Serenity, the film is so pretentious in its lack of characters or story or atmosphere, failing to accept that none of those aspects are as interesting as they were made out to be, the most dedicated actors of the bunch aren’t given much to do thanks to the lazy screenwriting, it gives too much insight and exposition for what is supposed to be a straight-forward story, the rhythm for its convoluted timeline is difficult to follow, any interesting concepts or ideas it introduces are never explored and are discarded as quickly as they appear, it tries to be both a reboot and a sequel at once serving as a continuity within the ultimate continuity and failing horribly at being both, for hardcore veterans or causal horror consumers alike, the film is almost completely devoid of scares, emotion or thrills and even if any of those elements were tweaked upon slightly to improve the movies overall quality, it wouldn’t save it because of how just how bloody BORING IT IS.

Seriously, I wanted to fall asleep.

The moment you saw SONY’s name attached to it as well as Screen Gems, you should’ve known this was going to go sideways fast. The only thing that this reboot accomplishes is making this already decaying franchise even more irrelevant. At this point, I dare say it’s officially classified itself as OBSOLETE. It must be DELETED! Happy New Year and happy new decade, were off to a great start thanks to you, Sony! Let’s see what else freakin’ comes my way this year. Goddamn it!
